About The Indian Museum
The Abenaki Indian Museum is the main attraction at The East Montpelier Sugarhouse. The Indian museum is located just outside Montpelier Vermont the capital of Vermont on historic route 2.The museum will teach you the history of the Abenaki Indians living in Vermont. Inside the museum you will find such items as Abenaki Indian clothing, Abenaki Indian Baskets. Birch bark canoe displays, Abenaki history, Various displays of the Abenaki indian tribes and bands in Vermont and much more Abenaki culture and history then you will find anywhere. We consider the museum to be one of the most educational Vermont museums of it's kind. Not only does the Indian museum offer the history of the Abenaki Indians of Vermont it also offers a classroom where various heritage & culture classes are being offered to teach people various skills such as Abenaki arts & crafts, Abenaki History, winter survival skills and traditions. The Abenaki Indians occupied the territory now called Vermont long before Euro Americans settled here and still today there are many Abenakis living here. We offer monthly themes that will also inspire programs and special demonstrations throughout the year. we are a short drive from Montpelier Vermont and are one of the states historical Vermont attractions. While you are here visiting our wonderful Green Mountains during the winter or anytime of year be sure to take some time and visit the Vermont Indian museum. You will be glad you stopped. What better way to learn about Vermont history and culture then visit a museum dedicated to the first people of Vermont The Abenaki Indians. Our location is close to many Vermont attractions such as Vermont Covered Bridges, The capital Montpelier Vermont, Cold Hollow Cider Mill, Ben & Jerry's Factory, St Johnsbury Vermont, Plainfield Vermont. We are also close to many Vermont Sugarhouses such as Bragg Farm Maple Sugar Works and Morse Farm Maple Sugar works. We also are close to many other attractions in Vermont such as The Granite Quarries in Barre Vermont such as Rock Of Ages as well as The Vermont Granite Museum. Another great time to visit us is either in the spring during Maple Sugaring time or the Fall during Fall Foliage. We do cater to Vermont Bus tours. We are on a major Tour bus route and encourage tour buses to stop.
